An Unwelcomed Guest!

To Make a Better Travel Living -

Not long ago, a businessman came to my town for a visit. After his arrival, we made a dinner appointment at 6.30pm. Then, when the time came, he rescheduled to 6.45pm and asked us to pick him up from the hotel. Dinner time, we ordered a whole array of dishes just for the courtesy of his arrival, however he didn't seem to enthusiast to the food we order, maybe he was worried about the business meeting scheduled for the next day.

In the following days,  things went on as usual except that he is not quite keen to have lunch or dinner with us as he was busy catching up the communication and workload to make up the time he lost during the journey.

However, what irked me most is the "service" we rendered for him during his stay. He would like to be served by knocking on his door and asked for the food he wanted to bring in. He would have everyone waited for him while the host was courteous enough to buy him breakfast but he just wouldn't get a bite on it.

After his departure from town whilst waiting for transit, I got an abrupt surprised that he called us to assist him to order food as he couldn't speak the native language. And yet requested us to call him back.

Not that i was bothered by his simple phone call to request for translation. Sure! it was just a simple gesture. But it was the perennial occurrence of discourteous that find him a nuisance to deal with. You may said that he is a guest and had a right to be treated like a VIP, but somehow these had its limit if the guest is taking things for granted. And it seems in this case we had been giving in and it has not been well reciprocate.

In this day and age of advanced technology breakthrough, mobile date is everywhere at your convenient. It is common to have a translation app or Google as long as you have internet while on the go.  So, there is no reason to antagonize others especially a savvy traveler. Or perhaps it is just a ploy or taken delight to fume his egocentricity.

Here is something ponder on. If you are a traveler visit someone country, shouldn't you display a respectful, affable manner to comply with the host who welcome you with the perks of appealing food and free accommodation. And as a merchant whose sole purpose is to solicit business, shouldn't he be crouched to gain our favor for his personal interest? While adversely, although this is quite an insignificant gesture against the beneficial of business interest, but what he has done has greatly reverse the effect.
